Manna Ministry

Manna Ministries began in December 1999, serving 47 families.  Presently, we provide between 3 and 5 days’ supply of groceries to approximately 150 to 200 families each month. At one time during 2002, when the local meat packing plant closed suddenly, we fed over 450 families for a couple of months!  Manna means an unexpected source of help.  Our scripture base is  1 John 3:17.

We unload groceries and sack them a couple of Wednesday nights before distribution,  from 5 to 7 p.m.  This is all volunteer, several coming from area churches to help. We obtain our food from the Food Bank of Kansas located in Wichita, from the Junior High School “We Care” food drive, and individual and other churches donations. God continues to provide for us.

The Diaconate provides a line item in the annual budget to cover Manna’s overhead expenses.  All monies donated from our church and other churches is used only to purchase food. We have a director and a board of 8 coordinators who make decisions.

There are no religious requirements to receive food. With their permission, we witness to and pray with food recipients. Many say we are the only people who ever pray with  or for them.

At special times during the month, our church family may pick up food if they need it. Elderly and handicapped can, also, pick up their food while being offered a warm  dry place to wait, with coffee provided.
